My, Dear Brother Charles; Ever since I can remember I have thought of you as I some one who had wished, but never dreamed that you were alive. And until the first of this pleasant month, had always supposed you had died at the close of the civil war between the north and the south. Of course I am anxious to hear from you where you have been and what you have been doing all these years. And I hope you will write me an answer to this letter, if it ever reaches you. I presumed you would like to have me give an account of myself: Well here goes. About the first recollection I have of my self was as an orphan in the New Haven Orphan Asylum in Conn. In 1865 I left that place and went to live with a family by the name of Wright. I also went by that name until quite recently. This family of Wrights brought me up as their own son sent me to school, in short gave me as good an education as my feeble brains, and their limited means would permit. I had quite an uneventful career up to my 23rd year never having been out of the state of Conn. And hardly the town of N.Haven with the exception of a six-month trip through the western states. At the age of 23 I married a N.Haven girl by the name of Kerntz. The marriage proved an unhappy one and I have since been divorced. There was a child born to us a little boy whom we named Robert. He only lived to be four years old and died in this city four year age. I am at present employed in the Mallet and Mavis Piano Man.g, at a small salary of twenty dollars a week. The above firm always close their work during the first week in July to take inventory and I took the opportunity and went to N.York to see Hattie. By the way it is six years since I have seen or heard from Hattie Frank or Edgar. I found sister Hattie in good health, and I found at the same time I had another niece most five years old. Hattie telegraphed to Frank that I was there and he came down from Hartford and we had quite a reunion. You can perhaps imagine how surprised I was when Hattie said to me. Well Leonard I suppose you know your brother Charlie is alive, married, and has .children in Australia, I thought she must be joking me till she brought me your letters to read, then of course I had to believe. I would like to see you and your wife and children very much. I wonder if I ever will. Give them all a good hug for me anyway will you. You are about twelve thousand miles from here Great Scott! What a walk, when you come this way drop in and see us. If this letter reaches you all right please send me some pictures of your family if you can, and I will send you mine. The last time you saw me I was a little baby almost and now I stand over six feet high I think I could whip you ha! ha! Don't be afraid. The only time I remember seeing you were in company with a lot of solders with big blue capes and knapsacks on their shoulders and a figure 2 on your cap like this---, and you pointed the butt of your musket at me and I was afraid. I have since found out it was the old N.H Grays. Well, good-bye brother and with beat wishes for yourself wife and little ones I remain your loving brother
