17. William⁹ HAMILTON (Unknown⁸, Thomas⁷, Thomas⁶, Alexander⁵, Archibald⁴, Alexander³, John², David¹ FITZWALTER) was born in Priestfield, Scotland. William died 1642 in Donegal, Ireland. He was taken prisoner by the Irish Rebals and carried off to Doe Castle, A stronghold of the MacSwinery's near Creeslough in Donegal with Robert Hamilton of Carrowbeg-son of his brother Hugh and husband of his granddaughter Janet. He suffered great privations, and died in the year 1642 while a prisoner in the hands of the rebels. (source Hamilton Memoirs, compiled by Everard Hamilton 1920)

He married Janet MOORE.

He resided in Ballyfatton, Co. Tyrone, Ireland 1616.

William HAMILTON and Janet MOORE had the following children:
